Rudyard Kipling wrote: “Gardens are not made by singing ‘Oh how beautiful’ and sitting in the shade.” And anyone who gardens seriously knows exactly what he was talking about. It seems that there is never any rest for those intent on achieving a garden that is harmonious throughout the seasons, with good bones for the winter and a cast of ever-blooming perennials and annuals to add drama and color to lovely summer days. Like children and pets, most plants require you to pay attention to them, so it helps to determine which plants are worthy of your time and energy before you bring them into your garden “family.”

Home sale and listing activity reach historical norms in 2014

VANCOUVER, B.C. – January 5, 2015

It was a typical year for the Metro Vancouver

housing market in certain respects. The region’s home sale and listing totals for 2014 both rank

fifth when compared against the past 10 years of activity, while home prices increased.

The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV) reports that total sales of detached,

attached and apartment properties in 2014 reached 33,116, a 16.1 per cent increase from the

28,524 sales recorded in 2013, and a 32.3 per cent increase over the 25,032 residential sales in 2012.

Thailand, as it turns out, played a major role in the couple’s decision to design their new home around a modernized Asian aesthetic that coupled Old-World touches with modern-day amenities. The inspiration: The Jim Thompson House, the historic home of James H.W. Thompson, a self-made American entrepreneur who was also founder of The Thai Silk Company. “We had been to Thailand many times and fell in love with everything there,” says Salisbury. “We were enchanted with the architecture. . . . Each of the villas [on Thompson’s property] has teak floors, walls, [and] ceilings. It’s such a beautiful, dense wood. . . . The wood was so soft; it felt like butter. I told my husband, this is how I would like my next house to be.”
