It was a classic story. A couple finds themselves with an empty nest and decides to ditch their traditional suburban home in favor of a more relaxed abode at the beach. Only this time, said beach house is less, well, beachy, and a lot more sophisticated. Such was the case when designer Tamara Magel was approached by her clients several years ago about designing their Sagaponack home in the heart of the Hamptons. “They wanted something that was elegant enough to be their full-time home but still casual because it’s right on the beach,” says Magel, a New York City–based textile and fashion designer.
